Let's dance

Judith Geppert.

This paper will demonstrate how Technology and Assistive Technology can assist someone with a substantial disability to live a far more fulfilling life.

So, join me in a personal, sometimes humorous insight into my life and listen to where Technology has brought me and is continuing to lead me.

In the 1960's, many felt the Age of Aquarius heralded the coming of "the end of times". I felt that it was the dawning of the "new world".

Personally, I called this the dawning of the 'new technology world'. Nobody, not the crazy inventors, not the knee jerk conservatives had any real idea of the lives they were unlocking when inventing these new forms of technology, whether it was to enable the first man to walk on the moon, or for me to test-drive my first electric wheelchair.

In 1956, Technology entered my life when I sat in front of a metal box called an IBM Electric Typewriter. Unable to write, this technology heralded freedom and the possibility that even I could reach for the stars.

Join me on a personal, sometimes humorous insight into life and see what you think. Was it a "new technology world" or was it "the end of times"?

This paper will prove that even people with no physical mobility can dance, given the technology. So bring it on - lets dance!
