This paper discusses the exclusionary nature of current evaluation processes for powered wheelchair mobility and proposes an alternate framework for identifying suitable candidates for powered wheelchair prescription. Discussion is based on clinical experience and examines the myths and barriers associated with the prescription of powered wheelchair mobility for children and adults with cognitive and or sensory impairments. Case examples are provided to demonstrate application of powered wheelchair mobility for young children with severe physical and cognitive or sensory impairments.
