Technological interventions in the form of aids and equipment are recommended to enhance quality of life of individuals with disabilities living in the community. Aids and Equipment Program is one of the Victorian Government programs which aims to assist children and adults to access subsidised aids, equipment and home modifications to enhance their safety and independence. This program was initiated in Victoria under the auspice of the Commonwealth Government in 1981, the Year of the Disabled.

To measure the success of this technological intervention, compliance in use and appropriateness of the aids and equipment provided under this program, during 2002-03 four issuing centres in Melbourne reviewed more than four hundred individuals who had received aids and equipment under this program. This paper will present the processes involved and results of these reviews, make recommendations in relation to the best practice, prescription and need for follow up.
