Telling anecdotes using an anecdote book or an electronic communication device

This 30-minute presentation will provide information for participants about using an AAC system for telling anecdotes (a story about something that has happened), either with a communication book or an electronic communication device. The anecdote system is just one part of an overall aided communication system for people with complex communication needs. It provides them with a way to tell their news in more detail, and allows more conversational turns than a Chat book entry.
The telling of the anecdote is divided into separate blocks of information e.g. what happened, what I thought, what everyone else thought, why it happened, when it happened, who was there, where it happened. Each block of information is written in separate whole sentences or paragraphs, so that the anecdote can be told in any order the user wishes to tell the story, and it will make sense.
The presentation will cover the following areas:
- What are anecdotes
- How an anecdote system fits in with other aided communication strategies
- Comparison between the anecdote book and the chat book
- How to write anecdotes
- How to design an anecdote system, including how to add anecdotes to the anecdote book
- How to use the anecdote book
