The pressure is on - every one, everywhere, every day
Emma Parry.
This hands on workshop introduces the use of pressure mapping as an every day clinical tool to assist in matching clients needs with optimal pressure relieving seating and mattress systems so that they can participate in life everywhere, everyday, all day. The workshop is of particular relevance to practitioners who work with clients who have need for pressure relieving sitting and lying surfaces.
The workshop will draw from the latest research on pressure sore prevention and support surface characteristics.
This forum will discuss the use, misuse, value and limitations of using this technology in conjunction with different support surfaces. The emphasis is on demystifying the use of pressure mapping technology, mastering technical terminology, and experiencing its application.
A clinical protocol for using pressure mapping technology in practice will be presented and demonstrated. What the pressure map actually means and how to interpret the numbers and colours will be discussed. Application to practice will be presented and illustrated with case studies.
Finally, strategies to incorporate the use of pressure mapping technology into everyday practice will be discussed - who should use it, when it should and should not be used.
