PASS software for supporting Prentke Romich communication devices

This paper will provide an overview of how to use PASS to perform device backups, manage vocabulary and create resources for Minspeak devices. Minspeak is a method of representing language though pictures, which is featured on communication devices from the Prentke-Romich Company, including Vantage and Vanguard. It advocates a developmental approach to language that encourages users to develop the ability to generate their own unique sentences. As with normally developing language, Minspeak needs to be taught at a level that is appropriate for an individual. This may require modification to vocabulary within the system, so people supporting these devices need a way of maintaining an individual's device and creating training resources.

PASS (Prentke Romich Company Application and Support Software) is a FREE software tool used to modify, create, and view vocabulary files. Modifications can be made to an individual's device without having to take it away. The programme allows you to import new images, text and WAV files, and export some text and graphics to word processing programs. It also has a dictionary and simple "write with icons" function for creating teaching aids.
