NovitaTech
In May 2005 NovitaTech delivered a series of 10 hands-on educational workshops around Australia aimed at promoting how someone with a physical disability can access and use a home or mobile phone. Entitled the "NovitaTech Snowy Hydro Telecommunications Road Show", the three and a half week program was delivered to every capital city in Australia, including Newcastle and Townsville, promoting the field of 'accessible telecommunication' and provided attendees with the opportunity to trial and use a range of specialist and commercial telephony equipment. Over 130 people attended the Road Show, with attendees coming from many diverse backgrounds including allied health, volunteers from Technical Aid for the Disabled, people who have a disability or who work with someone with a disability, rehabilitation engineering, and those from within the telecommunications industry. 99 feedback forms were collected from attendees and the average score for the Road Show was 9.2 out of 10, indicating a very high level of satisfaction with the material delivered. This presentation will provide an overview of the workshops, outline the need for education within the sector in this area, provide examples of what was presented, present feedback from attendees, and analyse the results of the feedback forms.
