Motors replacing muscles: Are we helping?
Katrina McGrath and Joyce Schuringa
The Seating Clinic in Hobart has a practice of supplying attendant control power chairs in preference to replacement manual chairs as the primary mobility system for adults who are dependant on assistants for wheeled mobility. The aim of this practice is to improve clients' connection into their community while improving the safety of those who assist them. The purpose of this paper is to test the hypotheses that powered mobility improves community access for our clients and safety for their carers. The methodology and the results of testing these hypotheses will be presented at the conference. Conclusions will form the basis for a discussion and peer review.
