Keeping your cool in moulded seating
Penny Knudson
Moulded seating aims to increase the surface area of the seating interface. A by-product of this is that temperature at the seating interface is increased, and users and their carers may experience increased sweating and heat build up, particularly when used in rural areas. This paper will discuss 3 case studies of people using moulded seating in the same rural area. One has a standard moulded seating system. The other is using "Supracor" sheeting on top of their moulded seating. The third is using Phase Change Material, from the Otto Bock floam range. This paper will discuss the comparison of each person's success with their product, the advantages and disadvantages of the products used and provide practical suggestions on how to incorporate heat reducing materials into moulded seating.
