Accessible Noosa

Noosa Shire has been recognised as one of Australia's most accessible and livable communities.

Universal access means that facilities, services and amenities are not only accessible to people with disabilities, but usable by people of all abilities.

Managing Director of e-bility.com, Sandra Vassallo from Sydney, said "Noosa Council have made access and equity a high priority. Everyone is catered for, and everyone can enjoy the lifestyle and attractions Noosa is famous for!"

An initiative of e-bility, a leading disability information resource, the Access Noosa web site will be launched as part of the International Day of People with Disabilities on 3 December.

The web site provides lots of information that will be of interest to residents and visitors. "It is an ideal way for people anywhere in the world to find out about accessibility in Noosa".

Everything from accommodation to support services, equipment providers, transport options, tours, eating out, conference venues, health and fun activities are covered.

Did you know that you could hire a beach wheelchair to enjoy the sand and surf, that the Ten Pin Bowling Alley has bowling ramps available or that O-Boat has a wheelchair accessible pontoon and boat that you can go fishing in?

Tingirana is also the first accommodation provider to install a pool hoist.

"The installation of the hoist now allows everyone to access the magnificent wet edge pool while staying at the resort that also has two fully accessible apartments available" said Bruce Houley, Manager at Tingirana.

Other accessible accommodation includes Regatta, Sandy Shores, Noosa Blue, Australis and Seahaven, as well as places such as The Islander, Colonial, Sebel and Noosa Palm Tree Motel that offer easy mobility. While Bougainvillia and Noosa River holiday parks offer accessible budget options.

Access Noosa celebrates the achievements of the Noosa Council's Equitable Access Reference Group. This group was formed over two years ago and has been instrumental in raising awareness about the importance of barrier free design.

"Everyone benefits, people with disabilities, carers, older people, families with prams and people with a temporary injury" said Councillor June Colley, who is a strong advocate for inclusive communities. "It just makes good sense".
