Projects
We have created a series of publications with information about our current and future projects. Please feel free to print these to share with friends, family and colleagues.
Guides
- Operation Adaption Guide (doc 2MB)
- FSF identified that a local guide with parent tips for adaptive ideas was needed. From a survey that was sent out to members 2 years ago our guide has been born. We asked members for their ideas on adapting everyday items for their child or children with additional needs. Any idea, big or small has been gladly accepted and lovingly produced here in our booklet. This guide has been produced without copyright as a gift from FSF to all families with children with special needs, their service providers and schools to use. Please make sure to credit Families Supporting Families when you use it so we can ensure we can develop the guide further in the future.
Posters
- Operation Adaption poster (doc 63 kb)
- Adaption is a big issue. Families Supporting Families members advise that adapted equipment, technology, curriculum and all everyday items is a big issue. It can be expensive, hard to find, time consuming. Our 2006 survey on all things adapted was highly informative and formed the larger part of the research we conducted for making this unique publication.
- Regional Road Show 2008 (doc 229 kb)
- Its time to share and grow. Families Supporting Families will be presenting a series of information sessions around the Hunter New England Area in 2008.
- Carer café (doc 67 kb)
- By request. This project is ready to roll out once funding is obtained. The Carer Café is an initiative of local families who were surveyed and advised they wanted a quick and easy way to meet and exchange information and enjoy some social time together.
- The Family Voice (doc 89 kb)
- The authentic voice of families. The Family Voice is an unfunded pilot project that reaches hundreds of local families and service providers. It is posted out bi-monthly and includes information, stories, articles, events and everything families with kids with special needs are interested in. Members tell us that the newsletter is their prime source for information and the items voted most popular each year are the member stories.
- Website (doc 56 kb)
- Inclusive design. Many members have low speed connections and simple programs. We wanted a site that was quick to access. We understand how important it is to have content that is usable by people with disability using assistive technology and our site was designed with web accessibility in mind.
- Mates Program at John Hunter Hospital (doc 48 kb)
- 'Mates' - borne from real life needs and experiences. The committee have experienced the challenges of both urgent and planned admissions for children with special needs to hospital. The Mates program was identified as urgent and the original drafts were underway in 2002.
- Empowering Families With Education (doc kb)
- Knowledge is power. We are ready to move forward and arm ourselves with the best most recent knowledge that is available so we can disseminate information more effectively to more families in the region. We have successfully obtained Hunter Area Assistance Scheme funding for this project, which is the first step in our unique concept.
- What's next (doc 51 kb)
- An exciting future. This download outlines upcoming projects. We have many ideas and we need help to bring them into reality.
